A late-night fire outbreak has destroyed three containerised shops at Eyenkorin Roundabout in the Apata area of Asa Local Government Area of Kwara State, leaving business owners counting their losses.

The incident reportedly occurred around 11:57 p.m. on Wednesday, when the Kwara State Fire Service received a distress call and quickly deployed firefighters to the scene to stop the blaze from spreading.

According to the fire service, the inferno involved six containerised shops, but emergency responders were able to contain the fire before it consumed all of them.

Preliminary findings indicated that the fire was caused by a power surge shortly after electricity supply was restored, which ignited nearby combustible materials and triggered the outbreak.

Firefighters battled the flames through the night and eventually brought the situation under control around 12:20 a.m., preventing further damage to surrounding properties.

Authorities have urged traders and residents to prioritise electrical safety, including proper wiring and switching off appliances when not in use, to prevent similar incidents in the future.

The latest fire adds to a series of recent fire outbreaks recorded in the state, many of which have been linked to electrical faults and power surges.
