Kaduna Electric has announced a reduction in electricity supply across its franchise areas due to gas supply constraints affecting power generation on Nigeria’s national grid.

In a statement issued on Sunday, the distribution company said the shortage of gas available to power plants has reduced electricity generation, resulting in lower power allocation to its network and increased load shedding.

The situation is expected to affect customers in Kaduna, Kebbi, Sokoto and Zamfara states, where the company distributes electricity.

Kaduna Electric explained that stakeholders in the power sector, including the Nigerian Independent System Operator, are working to improve gas supply to generation companies so that electricity output on the grid can increase.

The company added that it remains in close communication with relevant authorities while monitoring developments aimed at restoring normal electricity supply to its customers.

Kaduna Electric also apologised to residents and businesses for the inconvenience caused by the reduced power supply and asked customers for patience as efforts continue to stabilise generation on the grid.
