A fire outbreak on Monday morning gutted a section of the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation (OHCSF) located within the Federal Secretariat complex in Abuja, causing panic among workers and commuters in the area.
The blaze, which reportedly started around 8:00 a.m., produced thick plumes of smoke from an upper floor of the multi-storey building, forcing staff and visitors to evacuate the area while emergency responders rushed to the scene.
Officials confirmed that the fire was confined to Section C of the building, while firefighters from the Federal Fire Service quickly mobilised and worked to bring the situation under control.
According to the fire service spokesperson, personnel responded promptly after receiving the distress call and successfully contained the blaze, assuring the public that there was no cause for alarm.
The incident also caused heavy traffic congestion around the Federal Secretariat, forcing some commuters to abandon vehicles and trek to their destinations as emergency teams restricted movement around the area.
Authorities said the cause of the fire has not yet been confirmed, although investigations are expected to begin once the situation is fully stabilised.
