The Federal Government has praised Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum for expanding Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) in the state following the graduation of about 3,000 trainees from nine vocational enterprise institutes and training centres.

The commendation was contained in a statement issued by the Federal Ministry of Education, where the Minister of Education, Maruf Tunji Alausa, described the initiative as a significant step toward equipping young Nigerians with practical and employable skills.

According to the ministry, the graduates were also supported with starter packs and ₦100,000 entrepreneurship grants each to help them start businesses and become economically self-reliant after completing their training.

The minister noted that the programme aligns with the Federal Government’s nationwide TVET initiative, which aims to create about 250,000 training opportunities for Nigerian youths, with over 180,000 already undergoing training across the country.

He explained that the model focuses heavily on practical learning, with 80 percent hands-on training and 20 percent theoretical instruction, ensuring trainees acquire skills that meet industry needs.

The Federal Government also revealed plans to launch a national TVET job portal to link trained artisans and technicians with employment opportunities and provide access to starter kits and affordable financing.
