A loud explosion struck the United States Embassy in Oslo, Norway, early Sunday morning, causing minor damage to the building but no reported injuries, according to Norwegian police.
Authorities said the blast occurred around 1 a.m. local time near the entrance of the embassy’s consular section, sending smoke into the surrounding street and prompting a heavy security response.
Police quickly cordoned off the area while bomb experts, drones, police dogs and a helicopter were deployed to search for possible suspects linked to the incident.
Officials confirmed that no additional explosive devices were found, but investigators believe the blast may have been deliberately carried out, although the exact cause and perpetrators remain unknown.
Witnesses reported hearing a powerful bang followed by thick smoke near the embassy compound, which is located in western Oslo.
Norwegian authorities said a full investigation is underway, stressing that the incident is being treated seriously as security agencies work to identify those responsible.
