Dubai International Airport temporarily suspended flight operations on Saturday after an aerial interception occurred near the airport, authorities confirmed.
The Dubai Media Office said the suspension was introduced to ensure the safety of passengers, airport staff and airline crew while authorities assessed the situation and followed established security protocols.
Reports indicated that air defence systems intercepted an object in the area, and debris from the interception fell nearby, prompting precautionary safety measures and the temporary halt of flights at the airport.
Dubai International Airport the world’s busiest airport for international travel later announced that operations had partially resumed, although travellers were advised not to go to the airport unless their airline confirmed their flight due to possible schedule disruptions.
The disruption occurred amid heightened regional tensions and missile and drone activity across parts of the Gulf, linked to the ongoing conflict involving Iran and US-Israeli forces in the region.
Airlines including Emirates temporarily halted flights during the incident but began restoring services once authorities declared the situation under control.
