The Cross River State House of Assembly has indefinitely suspended the lawmaker representing Obubra I State Constituency, Dickson Ovat Agbor, following allegations of domestic violence involving his wife.

The suspension was approved during plenary after a motion was moved by Davies Etta and seconded by Francis Bassey Asuquo, with lawmakers describing the alleged conduct as “unbecoming of a legislator.”

Following deliberations, the Assembly resolved that Agbor be barred from all legislative activities pending investigation into the allegations. An ad hoc committee was also set up to probe the matter and report back to the House.

The Speaker of the House, Elvert Ayambem, said the legislature must maintain discipline and uphold the integrity expected of elected representatives.

Agbor was escorted out of the chamber by the Sergeant-at-Arms after the resolution was adopted. Meanwhile, his wife later appealed for privacy, saying the issue had been resolved within the family.
