A chieftain of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Buba Galadima, has stirred controversy after suggesting that Britain should return to colonise Nigeria again if the country’s leadership cannot fix its challenges.
Galadima made the remark during a programme on Africa Independent Television (AIT) while discussing Nigeria’s governance and security situation. According to him, the government must prioritise protecting citizens and creating an enabling environment for Nigerians to thrive.
The veteran politician argued that if authorities cannot address the country’s problems internally, they could consider hiring foreign mercenaries to restore order. He added that if such measures fail, the government should consider inviting Britain to take control again.
“If they can’t bring mercenaries, let them ask Britain to come back and colonise us again,” Galadima said, adding that such intervention could help enforce the rule of law, improve governance and curb corruption in the country.
His remarks have sparked reactions online, with many Nigerians debating the controversial suggestion and the broader issues of governance, insecurity and corruption that he referenced during the interview.
Galadima is a long-time Nigerian political figure who has been involved in several political movements and parties over the years. His comments have once again placed him at the centre of national discourse on the country’s political and economic challenges.
