An aide to the late Ondo State Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, has criticised Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa for claiming that the port declaration obtained by the previous administration was faulty.
Richard Olatunde, who served as Akeredolu’s Chief Press Secretary, described the statement as a misrepresentation of facts and an attempt to undermine the late governor’s efforts to establish a deep seaport project in Ondo State.
Aiyedatiwa had said during a media chat in Akure that although Akeredolu secured a port declaration for the project, the document was “faulty” and required amendment by his administration.
Reacting, Olatunde insisted that the declaration was properly obtained after feasibility studies and regulatory approvals, including a certificate from the Infrastructure Concession Regulatory Commission and submission of the Outline Business Case to the Federal Ministry of Transportation.
He explained that what the governor described as a fault was merely a clerical error involving the insertion of a company’s name, which was later corrected by the Federal Executive Council, stressing that it did not invalidate the port declaration.
Olatunde added that Akeredolu’s administration laid the groundwork for the deep seaport project, noting that international firms had already shown interest in its development before the late governor’s death.
