Super Eagles striker Victor Boniface has threatened to sue a social media user after a false claim alleging that he had been banned for two years by football authorities went viral online.

The controversy began when a post circulated on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), alleging that Boniface had tested positive for a banned substance and was facing a lengthy suspension. The claim spread quickly, drawing reactions from fans before it was later debunked and removed.

Boniface responded strongly to the misinformation, warning the individual behind the post that such defamatory statements could have legal consequences. In his reaction, he indicated that he would not tolerate false reports capable of damaging his reputation, career, and public image.

There has been no official announcement from FIFA, the Bundesliga, or any recognised football authority confirming a ban or disciplinary action against the striker. The viral claim appears to have been entirely fabricated.

The 25-year-old forward is currently recovering from injury and focusing on his return to full fitness. Supporters have rallied behind him, criticising the spread of unverified information and urging social media users to verify claims before sharing them.

Legal experts note that publishing false statements that harm an individual’s reputation can amount to defamation, and public figures increasingly rely on legal action to deter misinformation online.

Boniface’s warning serves as a reminder of the speed at which false narratives can spread on social media  and the potential consequences for those who create or share them.
