A UK-based Nigerian teenager, Jackson Uwagboe, has been sentenced to life imprisonment for the fatal stabbing of 21-year-old Robert Robinson in southeast London, in a case that has once again drawn attention to the growing knife crime crisis in the United Kingdom.

Uwagboe, 19, was convicted at the Old Bailey after a trial that detailed what prosecutors described as a sustained and violent attack. The incident occurred in Deptford, within the Lewisham area of London, in June 2024. According to court proceedings, Robinson was stabbed multiple times during the confrontation and later died from his injuries.

The court heard that the attack was deliberate and relentless. Even after the victim had fallen to the ground wounded, the assault continued. Prosecutors argued that the violence demonstrated clear intent, leaving little room for leniency during sentencing.

On February 18, 2026, the judge handed Uwagboe a life sentence, ordering that he must serve a minimum of 21 years before being eligible for parole. The ruling reflects the severity of the crime and aligns with the UK’s strict sentencing guidelines for murder involving weapons.

The case took a dramatic turn after the killing when Uwagboe fled the UK for Nigeria. However, following months of investigation by the Metropolitan Police, he was arrested upon his return to the UK through Gatwick Airport in February 2025. Detectives relied heavily on CCTV footage, forensic evidence, and phone data to piece together the events leading to the arrest.

Three other individuals were also linked to the case. Two teenagers were previously convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment for their roles in the attack, while another adult was found guilty of perverting the course of justice for assisting in attempts to evade law enforcement.

Detectives described the case as deeply tragic, noting the devastating impact on the victim’s family. Investigators said the sentencing brings a measure of justice, though it cannot undo the loss suffered.

The case adds to ongoing concerns about knife-related violence in London and other major UK cities, with authorities continuing to intensify efforts to curb youth involvement in violent crime.
