A 31-year-old Nigerian man, Esosa Eguakin, has been sentenced to two years’ imprisonment in the United Kingdom after pleading guilty to two counts of sexual assault against women aboard London-bound trains, according to court and police reports.

Eguakin was sentenced at Guildford Crown Court on Tuesday, 10 February 2026, following a British Transport Police (BTP) investigation into separate incidents on trains running from Hampshire to London Waterloo. Police say he deliberately sat close to lone female passengers and sexually assaulted them during morning journeys in August and October 2025.

In addition to the prison term, the court issued a five-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) barring Eguakin from sitting or standing next to, or opposite, women travelling alone on public transport — a rare protective condition aimed at preventing further predatory behaviour.

The first assault took place on 21 August 2025, when Eguakin sat behind a woman in her 30s on a service from Fratton to London Waterloo and sexually assaulted her, police said. On 6 October, he attacked a second woman on a train from Eastleigh to London Waterloo; when confronted, Eguakin claimed he was trying to pick up a dropped phone but refused to move, prompting an off-duty police officer to intervene and escort him from the carriage at Woking station.

Detective Constable David Stewart of the BTP described Eguakin’s conduct as “predatory and deeply distressing” for the victims and commended the women for supporting the investigation. Authorities emphasised that anyone who experiences or witnesses sexual offences on trains or at stations should report them promptly.

The sentence and prevention order underline UK courts’ stance on protecting public safety on transport systems and holding offenders accountable for sexual violence.
