Two persons have been confirmed dead following a fatal collision involving two trucks along the busy Oshodi–Apapa Expressway in Lagos.

The tragic accident, which occurred during peak traffic hours, caused massive gridlock on the ever-busy corridor known for heavy-duty vehicle movement linked to port activities. According to eyewitness accounts, the trucks reportedly collided head-on, leaving both vehicles severely damaged and trapping occupants inside the wreckage.

Officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) and other emergency responders were swiftly deployed to the scene to manage traffic and rescue victims. The deceased were later evacuated, while efforts were made to clear the wreckage to restore free flow of vehicles.

The Oshodi-Apapa Expressway remains one of Lagos’ most congested routes, largely due to constant movement of articulated trucks servicing the ports. Accidents involving heavy-duty vehicles have become a recurring concern for commuters and residents who ply the axis daily.

Authorities have urged truck drivers to adhere strictly to safety regulations, including speed limits and proper vehicle maintenance, to prevent further loss of lives. Investigations into the cause of the crash are ongoing.
