President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated players of Nigerian heritage who played pivotal roles in the Seattle Seahawks’ 29–13 victory over the New England Patriots to clinch Super Bowl 60 at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California.
In a statement released by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu described the victory as a moment of pride for Nigeria and Nigerians worldwide, noting that the triumph highlights the talent, resilience and global impact of Nigerians in professional sports.
The President specifically recognized several players of Nigerian descent for their outstanding performances:
- Jalen Oluwaseun Milroe (Quarterback) – contributed to key plays and sustained offensive drives for the Seahawks.
- Nick Emmanwori (Safety) – excelled in pass defense and interceptions, helping secure Seattle’s defensive dominance.
- Uchenna Nwosu (Linebacker) and Boye Mafe (Linebacker) – disrupted New England’s offensive plays, demonstrating physical prowess and strategic awareness.
- Olu Oluwatimi (Offensive Lineman) – played a crucial role in protecting the quarterback and enabling successful drives.
Tinubu also commended Michael Onwenu of the New England Patriots, one of the league’s most formidable offensive linemen of Nigerian descent, acknowledging his efforts despite his team’s loss.
The President lauded Emmanwori, Nwosu and Mafe for celebrating the victory by raising the Nigerian flag on the Super Bowl field, calling it a powerful expression of national pride and patriotism.
