The DSS has filed a three-count charge against former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, over alleged offenses bordering on incitement and statements considered prejudicial to national security.

According to court documents filed at the Federal High Court, the charges stem from comments reportedly made by El-Rufai during recent public engagements and media appearances. The Department of State Services (DSS) alleges that the former governor made remarks capable of inciting public unrest and undermining national stability.

Sources familiar with the matter disclosed that the charges include allegations of making statements deemed capable of disturbing public peace, inciting disaffection against constituted authority, and engaging in actions interpreted as a threat to public order. The DSS is said to be relying on provisions of relevant laws relating to national security and public safety.

El-Rufai, who served as governor of Kaduna State from 2015 to 2023, has yet to formally respond in court to the charges at the time of filing this report. However, close associates of the former governor have described the legal action as politically motivated.

The case is expected to generate significant public interest given El-Rufai’s prominent role in national politics and his outspoken stance on governance and policy matters since leaving office.
