No fewer than 30 people have lost their lives following a fatal trailer crash in Kano State, with authorities attributing the tragedy to reckless driving.
The incident occurred in Kwanar Barde, Gezawa Local Government Area, when a trailer conveying passengers and goods reportedly lost control and crashed, killing dozens on the spot and leaving several others seriously injured. Witnesses said the vehicle was travelling at high speed before the accident.
Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, described the crash as devastating and extended condolences to the families of the victims. He directed the state Ministry of Health to provide free medical treatment to survivors receiving care in hospitals across the state.
Emergency responders and security agencies were deployed to the scene to evacuate victims and restore order, while investigations have been launched to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the crash.
The incident has renewed calls for stricter enforcement of traffic regulations, particularly against reckless driving and the use of heavy-duty vehicles to transport passengers.
