Paris Saint-Germain defender Achraf Hakimi has been ordered to stand trial in France over a rape allegation dating back to 2023, French authorities and the player himself have confirmed.

The case was referred to trial by the Nanterre public prosecutor’s office after a woman, then 24, accused Hakimi of sexually assaulting her at his home in a Paris suburb in February 2023. The allegation led to a preliminary investigation in March of that year.

Hakimi, 27, took to social media platform X on Tuesday to deny the allegation, describing it as unjust and saying he looks forward to the trial so that the “truth can come out publicly.”

Under French law, being sent for trial means prosecutors believe there is sufficient evidence to pursue a case, though a court date has not yet been set. The player’s lawyer has indicated plans to appeal the referral decision.

The development comes as PSG prepare for a Champions League fixture against AS Monaco, with Hakimi still listed in the club’s squad for the match.

The trial represents a significant legal step in one of the highest-profile cases involving a top footballer in recent years, and will be closely watched in both sporting and legal circles.
