The Nigeria Police Force has confirmed that it is analysing a viral documentary that alleges a Nigerian man impersonated the Crown Prince of Dubai in an elaborate fraud scheme.

According to the police, the investigation is being handled by the National Cybercrime Centre, which began reviewing the documentary after it gained widespread attention online. Authorities said the review is based on information already in the public domain, noting that no formal complaint has yet been filed by the documentary’s producers or the alleged victim.

A senior police official explained that the force is currently profiling the claims and verifying the facts, stressing that the absence of a direct petition does not prevent law enforcement from examining allegations that may involve cybercrime or international fraud.

The documentary claims that the suspect posed as a member of Dubai’s royal family to allegedly defraud a foreign woman of millions of dollars through a romance and investment scam, using fake identities and digital platforms to gain trust.

While no arrest or charges have been announced so far, the police said further action would depend on the outcome of their analysis and the availability of credible evidence. They also warned Nigerians and foreign nationals to be cautious of online impersonation, romance scams, and suspicious investment offers, urging victims to report such cases promptly.

The development highlights growing concerns over cyber-enabled fraud and the role of online investigations in tackling increasingly sophisticated scams.
