A Nigerian man has been arrested by Sierra Leone Police at Freetown International Airport on suspicion of drug trafficking after 46 wraps of a white substance suspected to be cocaine were found in his possession during routine security screening.
The suspect, identified as Patrick Nonso, was detained on Sunday, 22 February 2026, while travelling with an Italian passport. Authorities said he was apprehended when officers discovered the suspected narcotics during checks on arriving passengers.
Police confirmed that Nonso is currently in custody and cooperating with investigators as they work to establish the origin of the suspected cocaine and whether others are involved.
Forensic tests are ongoing to determine the exact nature and weight of the confiscated substance, and the investigation continues as law enforcement officials review travel documents and other evidence related to the case.
