Nigeria and Cameroon have signed a Bilateral Agreement on Technical Aeronautical Search and Rescue Operations to strengthen aviation safety cooperation across their shared airspace, officials say.

The pact signed in Yaoundé, the capital of Cameroon, on Friday, 27 February 2026  was inked by Nigeria’s Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, and Cameroon’s Minister of Transport, Jean Ernest NgalNgallé Bibehe.

According to Keyamo, the agreement establishes a framework for technical cooperation during aviation emergencies, enabling faster and more coordinated responses when aircraft are in distress near their common border.

The Nigerian delegation included senior officials from the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) and the Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development, underscoring a unified approach to implementation.

Officials say the pact aligns with broader efforts to enhance airspace safety, regional cooperation and rapid emergency response mechanisms, benefiting flight operations in West and Central Africa.
