The Lagos State Wastewater Management Office (LSWMO) has sealed off a public toilet facility at Ijora Olopa and a private property in Coker-Aguda, Surulere, after confirming that both sites were discharging untreated wastewater and raw sewage into the environment, creating a public nuisance and health risk, authorities said.
According to a statement issued by the agency, the public toilet at Ijora Olopa was shut on February 24, 2026, after inspectors found that wastewater and sewage were being deliberately pumped into the open environment using a pumping machine an act that constitutes environmental pollution and endangers human health under state sanitation laws.
The same enforcement action was taken against a property at 22b Oshodi-Apapa Expressway, Coker Market Road, Coker-Aguda, following complaints and subsequent verification that untreated wastewater was being persistently discharged into public spaces around the residence, posing hazards to the surrounding community.
LSWMO warned that violations of wastewater management regulations will not be tolerated and that offenders could face sanctions, including prosecution, under applicable state environmental laws. The agency also called on residents and business owners to adopt proper wastewater and hygiene practices to protect public health and promote environmental sustainability.
Officials encouraged members of the public to report suspected pollution infractions through the agency’s official contact lines or social media channels to help safeguard the environment and health of Lagos residents.
