The Lagos State Government has sealed the Ladipo Spare Parts Market along the Apapa–Oshodi Expressway following persistent environmental and sanitation violations.
Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, said the action was taken after authorities observed indiscriminate dumping of refuse, trading activities spilling onto the highway, and other practices that contravene the state’s environmental laws. According to him, the market’s activities had contributed to environmental degradation and posed risks to public health and road safety.
The closure, Wahab explained, is part of the state’s broader enforcement drive to ensure strict compliance with waste management and sanitation regulations across markets and commercial centres in Lagos. He warned that no market or business would be exempt from sanctions if found violating environmental standards.
Ladipo Market, one of the largest auto spare parts hubs in the state, has previously been cautioned and sanctioned over similar issues. The government said the market will remain sealed until traders fully comply with prescribed environmental and safety requirements.
Officials urged market leaders and traders to take responsibility for maintaining cleanliness, noting that adherence to environmental laws is essential to sustainable urban living in Lagos.
