Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has condemned joint military strikes by the United States and Israel, accusing both countries of “criminal military aggression” against its territory and asserting the actions violated its sovereignty and the United Nations Charter.
In a statement, Tehran said the air attacks targeted defensive infrastructure and civilian sites in multiple cities and occurred “while Tehran and Washington were engaged in diplomatic talks”, describing the strikes as a flagrant breach of Article 2(4) of the UN Charter that prohibits the use of force against the territorial integrity of a state.
Iran insisted it had prioritised diplomacy to avoid conflict but said the attacks forced it to consider its right to self-defence under Article 51 of the Charter, pledging a decisive and powerful response from its armed forces. Tehran also called on the UN Security Council and the international community to condemn the strikes and take urgent action to prevent further escalation.
The development comes amid a rapidly escalating confrontation in the Middle East following coordinated retaliatory operations by the U.S. and Israel, which both countries say were aimed at neutralising threats from Iran’s military and nuclear infrastructure.
