The Federal Government has approved ₦21.68 billion for the construction of a new corporate headquarters and Air Traffic Management (ATM) Centre for the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) in Abuja, aviation officials say.

At a groundbreaking ceremony held at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, described the project as a key part of efforts to modernise Nigeria’s aviation infrastructure and enhance the safety, efficiency and operational effectiveness of the country’s airspace services.

The main contract for the first phase, awarded to NHD Interbiz Projects Limited, is valued at approximately ₦21,684,314,839.40 inclusive of all taxes, with a 30-month completion timeline. The facility will consolidate NAMA’s administrative functions with a state-of-the-art Air Traffic Management Centre, improving real-time responsiveness and fostering collaboration among personnel.

Keyamo said the project followed a transparent and competitive procurement process in line with the Public Procurement Act 2007, and reflects the government’s commitment to boosting investor confidence, creating jobs and strengthening Nigeria’s aviation ecosystem.

Officials also noted that the headquarters will centralise airspace control by integrating previously separate regional units into a unified Air Traffic Management hub in Abuja, a move expected to streamline operations and surveillance across the nation’s flight information region.
