Former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai has accused the office of Nuhu Ribadu of procuring a highly toxic chemical from a supplier in Poland, raising concerns over public safety and transparency.
In a letter shared publicly on X, El-Rufai claimed that the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) allegedly imported thallium sulphate, a colourless and odourless substance classified as extremely poisonous. He described the transaction as a serious risk to public health and demanded that Ribadu clarify the purpose, quantity, supplier, and security measures surrounding the chemical.
El-Rufai also urged that regulatory bodies such as NAFDAC and the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control be involved in assessing the safety and oversight of the substance. He argued that Nigerians have the right to know how such a dangerous material could be brought into the country, especially under the purview of a federal security agency.
As of now, the National Security Adviser’s office has not responded, leaving the matter unresolved amid growing calls for transparency in the handling of hazardous materials by government agencies.
