Afrobeats star Davido has withdrawn his custody case involving his daughter, Imade Adeleke, citing emotional distress after a courtroom comment allegedly referencing his late son, Ifeanyi Adeleke.
The singer had filed a suit at the Lagos State High Court in April 2024, seeking joint custody and unrestricted access to Imade, whom he shares with Sophia Momodu. However, Davido clarified in a series of posts on X that he never sought full custody of his daughter, contrary to public perception.
According to him, the turning point came during court proceedings when Sophia’s lawyer allegedly mentioned his late son during cross-examination. Davido described the reference as a “low blow” and said it crossed a personal boundary he could not ignore.
“I never asked for full custody… I asked for joint custody. Nobody won, nobody lost but Imade,” he wrote, adding that he decided to step away from the legal battle to protect his peace and his daughter’s emotional wellbeing.
The singer expressed disappointment over how the case unfolded but maintained that his decision does not diminish his commitment to his daughter. He stated that Imade will grow up knowing he fought for access to her and that he remains dedicated to being present in her life.
The custody dispute had drawn widespread public attention, with social media reactions intensifying after each court development. By withdrawing the case, Davido signaled a desire to move forward without further legal confrontation.
As of the time of reporting, there has been no official response from Sophia Momodu or her legal team regarding the withdrawal.
