The Chief of Army Staff (COAS) has pledged decisive military action against terrorists across Nigeria’s troubled regions while also promising significant improvements in the welfare and wellbeing of troops engaged in frontline operations.

In a statement issued during a visit to troops in a major forward operating base, the COAS reaffirmed the Army’s commitment to protecting lives and property by relentlessly pursuing and dismantling armed groups responsible for terror attacks, kidnappings, and banditry. He emphasised that there would be no respite for terrorists, warning that military operations would be intensified to degrade their capabilities and restore security in affected communities.

The Army chief highlighted that alongside combat operations, the welfare of soldiers remains a top priority. He announced plans to enhance support for troops by improving accommodation, medical care, transportation allowances, and provision of essential operational equipment. The COAS said that ensuring better living and working conditions for servicemen and women is crucial to sustaining morale and effectiveness in ongoing campaigns against insurgents.

The visit provided an opportunity for the COAS to interact directly with commanders and soldiers, assess their needs, and listen to concerns from personnel on the ground. He urged troops to remain steadfast, disciplined, and resilient in the face of adversity, noting that their sacrifices are critical to national security and the protection of citizens.

Military authorities reiterated that the Army will continue to collaborate with other security agencies and local partners to enhance intelligence gathering and operational coordination, particularly in areas most affected by terrorism and violent crimes.

The COAS’s assurances are expected to bolster confidence among troops and reassure the public that the Army is focused on both eradicating threats to peace and ensuring that the men and women defending the nation are well supported.
