At least four Nigerian soldiers have been killed following a Boko Haram attack in Borno State, highlighting the continued threat posed by insurgents in the North-East.

The soldiers were reportedly ambushed along the Maiduguri–Damaturu highway, near Auno community, a volatile area known for repeated insurgent attacks. Security sources said the troops were part of a reinforcement team responding to operational needs when they ran into a coordinated assault by the terrorists.

The attackers allegedly used improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and gunfire to overpower the soldiers, leading to multiple casualties. Four soldiers were confirmed dead, while details about possible injuries or missing personnel remain unclear as of the time of reporting.

Auno, located about 24 kilometres from Maiduguri, has remained a major flashpoint for Boko Haram and ISWAP activities, despite sustained military operations aimed at clearing insurgents from the area.

Military authorities have yet to issue an official statement on the incident, but investigations are ongoing as security forces continue efforts to stabilise the region and prevent further attacks.
