Microsoft co‑founder Bill Gates has admitted he deeply regrets ever spending time with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, describing the interactions as a mistake he now wishes he could undo.
In an interview with 9 News Australia, Gates said he first met Epstein in 2011, years after Epstein’s conviction, and acknowledged attending several meetings and dinners over a three‑year period. “Every minute I spent with him, I regret, and I apologise that I did that,” Gates said, calling his involvement “foolish” and a “dead end.”
Gates insisted that the meetings were strictly about business and global health initiatives, not personal or illicit activities. He denied visiting Epstein’s private Caribbean island or meeting women through him, and refuted claims in draft emails from the recently released Epstein files suggesting misconduct. Gates said the emails, which were never sent, were false and may have been intended to tarnish his reputation.
The tech billionaire explained that Epstein had offered to connect him with potential donors for his global health work, but the efforts were unproductive. “I was one of many people who regret ever knowing him,” Gates said, emphasising that he had no involvement in Epstein’s criminal behavior.
The comments come as the release of Epstein-related documents continues to draw attention to his connections with high-profile figures. Gates’s statement reflects his effort to acknowledge a past misjudgment while distancing himself from the scandal.
