Suspected bandits have killed three people and kidnapped a Catholic priest along with ten others in a fresh raid on Karku community, Kauru Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

The attack occurred in the early hours of Saturday, with gunmen storming the village and overrunning the residence of Reverend Father Nathaniel Asuwaye, parish priest of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Karku. The assailants then forcibly took Fr. Asuwaye and ten other villagers into nearby forests.

Community sources identified the victims of the killings as Jacob Dan’azumi, Maitala Kaura, and Alhaji Kusari. The Diocese of Kafanchan described the assault as a “tragic blow” and urged urgent prayers for the safe return of the abducted priest and villagers.

The Diocesan Chancellor, Very Reverend Father Jacob Shanet, called on church members and the public to pray for the captives and the deceased, entrusting them to divine protection.

The incident underscores the worsening security situation in southern Kaduna, where communities have faced repeated attacks by bandits. Authorities say they are intensifying operations to track the attackers and secure the release of those kidnapped.
