The Anambra State Government has pledged to ensure justice for a Junior Secondary School (JSS3) student who was allegedly assaulted by her guardian, an incident that has sparked outrage across the state.
The student, identified as Miracle Amah, attends Community Secondary School, Agulu in Anaocha Local Government Area. She reportedly arrived at school with burn injuries on her face, chest, and other parts of her body, prompting school authorities to investigate immediately. Her guardian, Mrs. Osinachi Edeh, was questioned after the incident came to light.
According to Miracle, the assault stemmed from a misunderstanding involving her phone. She had used her aunt’s phone to call what she thought was a cousin, but mistakenly dialed the wrong number. Her guardian allegedly accused her of contacting a male friend and, when she denied wrongdoing, threatened her with a knife and inflicted burns using a heated pressing iron.
Reacting to the incident, Anambra State’s Commissioner for Education, Prof. Ngozi Chuma‑Udeh, condemned the assault and assured the public that the government would hold the perpetrator accountable. She emphasized that the administration of Governor Chukwuma Soludo is committed to protecting children and ensuring their welfare.
The suspect has been taken into custody by the Anambra State Police Command, and investigations are ongoing. Authorities have stressed that the state treats child abuse cases with the utmost seriousness and will take all necessary steps to safeguard vulnerable students.
