A war of words has broken out between Governor Ademola Adeleke’s aide and the Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) over a planned protest by pensioners in the state.

The APC accused the Adeleke administration of allegedly orchestrating the protest to score political points amid ongoing disputes over local government affairs. The party claimed that retirees were being mobilised to demonstrate at some bank branches, warning that such actions amounted to the politicisation of pensioners’ welfare. It also called on security agencies to intervene and prevent the protest.

In response, the governor’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, dismissed the APC’s allegations as baseless and misleading, insisting that the state government had no hand in organising any protest. He maintained that pensioners and other citizens have the constitutional right to peaceful protest, adding that the opposition was attempting to suppress legitimate expressions of grievance.

Rasheed further accused the APC of trying to divert attention from issues surrounding local government administration in the state, describing the party’s claims as politically motivated.

The disagreement highlights the deepening political tension in Osun State, particularly over local government control and the handling of pension and workers’ welfare issues.
