A gateman at Dominion School in Aba, Abia State, is currently under police investigation after being accused of defiling a three-year-old pupil.
The incident reportedly came to light following a video circulating online, in which the suspect appeared to admit to the act, stating, “I will not do it again,” and claiming the alleged offence happened only once. He reportedly said the child had asked to use the toilet, and he lured her away before the alleged assault.
The Abia State Police Command, through spokesperson Mrs. Maureen Chinaka, confirmed that the case is under investigation and has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for detailed forensic and legal examination. Authorities are currently gathering statements from the victim, witnesses, and school officials as part of the probe.
The case has sparked public concern over child safety in schools, with advocates and community leaders urging stricter supervision and protective measures to safeguard pupils. If found guilty, the gateman could face severe penalties under Nigerian child protection laws, including long-term imprisonment.
