The United Evangelical Church in Ehere/Umuola, Ogbor Hill, Aba, Abia State has refuted claims from the state police regarding a suspected bomb recovery at its premises, stating that no police officer has visited the church to verify the incident.

The controversy began after reports emerged that a suspected explosive device was discovered during ground excavation work for a new church fence. While the Abia State Police Command dismissed the reports, saying the object was merely an iron rod and posed no threat, church officials insist that military personnel, not police, were the first to examine and remove the object.

Elder Ariomnwa Amadi, the church’s board chairman, criticized the police’s public statement, saying no officer had personally inspected the site or spoken to church representatives. He emphasized the need for a thorough, transparent investigation to clarify the situation and ensure the safety of worshippers.

The church has welcomed the involvement of other security agencies, including the Department of State Services (DSS) and the military, and urged the police to properly investigate the premises to address the discrepancy and reassure the congregation.

The Abia State Police, meanwhile, maintains that the site is safe, but church leaders continue to call for direct verification to resolve the controversy once and for all.
