British police have arrested a 13-year-old boy on suspicion of attempted murder following a double stabbing at Kingsbury High School in north-west London, leaving two pupils seriously injured.
The incident occurred around 12:40 p.m. on Tuesday, when emergency services were called after reports that a 13-year-old student had been stabbed. Upon arrival, officers discovered that a 12-year-old pupil had also been attacked. Both victims were rushed to hospital, with one taken to a major trauma centre, and remain in serious condition.
Police launched an immediate investigation and recovered the suspected weapon. The 13-year-old suspect was arrested later the same day and is currently in custody, being questioned about the circumstances surrounding the attack. Investigators are keeping “an open mind” about the motive, and while the case is being led by Counter Terrorism Policing London due to the unusual circumstances, it has not been classified as a terrorist incident.
In response, Kingsbury High School headteacher Alex Thomas described the event as “a deeply traumatic incident for the whole school community,” and confirmed that sections of the campus were placed under lockdown while police carried out their inquiries. Affected areas, particularly the lower school, remained closed the following day to ensure student safety.
Officials, including the UK Home Secretary and Education Secretary, have expressed shock and pledged support for the victims, their families, and the school staff. Counselling and support services have been made available to students and staff affected by the traumatic event.
