Violence broke out in parts of Kano State after suspected hoodlums attacked seven communities, setting fire to scores of local bakeries and leaving residents in shock. The coordinated attacks reportedly took place in neighbourhoods within the Dala Local Government Area, where small businesses were targeted and destroyed.
Eyewitnesses said the attackers moved swiftly from one area to another, using petrol and other flammable materials to set bakeries ablaze before fleeing the scenes. The fires caused extensive damage, wiping out sources of livelihood for many bakery owners who rely on daily production to sustain their families.
Residents described moments of panic as flames engulfed buildings and thick smoke filled the air. Many business owners were unable to salvage their equipment or goods, leading to significant financial losses. Community members said the sudden nature of the attacks left them helpless and fearful of further violence.
The destruction of local bakeries has raised serious concerns, as these businesses play a vital role in providing affordable food and employment within the communities. Locals have condemned the attacks, calling them senseless and devastating to already struggling households.
As of the time of reporting, there has been no official confirmation of arrests linked to the incident. Residents and community leaders have appealed to security agencies to increase patrols, investigate the attacks thoroughly and restore calm to the affected areas.
The incident adds to growing concerns over insecurity in Kano, with residents urging authorities to take decisive steps to prevent further attacks and protect lives and property.
