The final batch of kidnapped Christians in Kogi State has been released, bringing an end to weeks of fear and uncertainty for the victims and their families. The Aiyetoro Kiri Bunu Development Association confirmed that six members of the First ECWA Aiyetoro Kiri church, who were abducted during an attack on December 14, 2025, were freed recently.
This release completes a phased process that began earlier in January. Seven victims were freed on January 1 after initial negotiations, followed by three on January 12 and fourteen on January 13. The latest six mark the final group, concluding the ordeal that had gripped the entire community.
The association said securing the freedom of all abductees required sustained engagement, significant financial contributions, and the collective efforts of community members, families, and supporters. They expressed gratitude to God, the media, and all those who helped keep public attention on the crisis.
Community leaders have called for improved security in Aiyetoro Kiri and the wider Bunu land to prevent similar attacks in the future. The release of the final batch has brought relief, but residents continue to urge government and security agencies to ensure lasting safety for vulnerable communities.
