Nigeria’s dream of playing at the 2026 FIFA World Cup may not be over just yet, as FIFA continues to review an eligibility case involving the Democratic Republic of Congo (DR Congo).

The Super Eagles had appeared to bow out of the qualification race after losing to DR Congo in the playoffs. However, fresh hope emerged after the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) filed an official petition to FIFA, alleging that DR Congo fielded players who were not eligible under FIFA and national regulations.

According to reports, the complaint centers on issues surrounding player nationality and compliance with eligibility rules. FIFA has acknowledged the petition and is currently examining the matter, a process that has kept Nigeria’s qualification hopes alive.

While a final decision is still pending, the ongoing review means the door has not been completely shut on Nigeria’s World Cup ambitions. Should FIFA rule in favour of Nigeria, the Super Eagles could be reinstated into the qualification process or benefit from sanctions imposed on DR Congo.

For now, Nigerian football fans wait anxiously as FIFA’s verdict could determine whether the Super Eagles get a second chance on the road to the 2026 World Cup.
