The Niger State Government has lifted the night-time ban on motorcycles and tricycles in Minna, the state capital, following improvements in the security situation. The restriction, which had been in place for about ten months, prohibited the operation of these vehicles between 8:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. to curb crime.

The Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Abubakar Usman, said the decision was based on recommendations from the State Security Committee and reflects a “significant and sustained improvement in the security landscape of Minna.” Authorities emphasized that while the ban has been lifted, security agencies will continue to monitor traffic and enforce safety regulations.

Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago directed that motorcycles and tricycles be allowed to operate freely at night, stressing that residents and operators must conduct themselves responsibly. The government also reaffirmed its commitment to ongoing security initiatives to ensure peace and stability in the capital.

Many residents, particularly traders and commuters, had previously expressed frustration over the restriction, citing difficulties with transportation and access. The lifting of the ban has been welcomed as a relief to those who rely on motorcycles and tricycles for their daily commute and livelihood.
