Former presidential candidate and leader of the Kwankwasiyya Movement, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has reacted to the recent resignation of Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf and other political leaders from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP). Kwankwaso spoke to supporters in Kano shortly after the governor’s exit was confirmed.

Governor Yusuf formally resigned from the NNPP in a letter dated January 23, 2026. In the letter, he thanked the party for giving him a platform since 2022 but said that prolonged leadership disputes and ongoing legal battles had weakened the party’s unity. He explained that he decided to resign after careful thought, believing it was in the best interest of the people of Kano State. Several lawmakers and local government officials also resigned alongside him.

In response, Kwankwaso told his supporters that he is not “for sale.” He said his involvement in politics has always been about serving ordinary Nigerians and upholding shared values, not personal gain. He urged his supporters to remain focused and to start preparing for the 2027 general elections, warning that there are people determined to weaken the movement he has built over time.

Kwankwaso also reassured his followers that the Kwankwasiyya Movement is based on loyalty, discipline, and shared purpose. He reaffirmed his commitment to fighting for the interests of ordinary citizens and said he would not compromise his principles.

Governor Yusuf’s departure has caused significant shifts in Kano politics, with many of his supporters expected to join the ruling All Progressives Congress. The development raises questions about the NNPP’s future strength and the role of the Kwankwasiyya Movement as Nigeria approaches the 2027 elections.
