Gunmen have abducted Ambassador Bashir Isa Gusau, the North-West Youth Leader of the Tinubu/Shettima Campaign Organisation, in a brazen attack that has left his family and supporters in shock. The incident occurred on Thursday, January 29, 2026, at Gusau town, the Zamfara State capital, where the victim was reportedly taken from his home in front of his wife.

According to eyewitnesses and reports circulating on social media, a group of over 30 armed men stormed Gusau’s residence in the early hours of the evening. They overpowered security personnel and residents, and swiftly whisked the campaign leader away in waiting vehicles. The kidnappers reportedly left threats behind, demanding that security agencies stay clear while they executed their operation.

The abduction has drawn sharp attention to the growing insecurity in Zamfara State, which has for years been plagued by banditry, kidnappings, and violent attacks on residents, community leaders, and politicians alike. Analysts have warned that such attacks highlight the persistent vulnerability of public figures in the North-West, despite ongoing security efforts by federal and state authorities.

Security agencies were immediately alerted, and search operations were launched to trace the abductors. However, as of the latest reports, Gusau’s whereabouts remain unknown. Authorities have not yet released an official statement, but local law enforcement sources say that intelligence units are actively following leads and coordinating with other security formations in the region.

Residents in Gusau and neighbouring communities have expressed fear and frustration, with many pointing out that frequent kidnappings are undermining local stability and economic activity. Some community members have called for stronger collaboration between federal forces, state security outfits, and local vigilante groups to prevent further incidents.

Political observers noted that the attack could have broader implications for the Tinubu/Shettima campaign in the North-West, highlighting the risks faced by political operatives in areas heavily affected by insecurity. Analysts also warned that such incidents could discourage youth participation in political activities if adequate protection is not guaranteed.

The abduction comes amid a surge in kidnappings across Zamfara and other parts of northern Nigeria, where armed groups frequently target wealthy individuals, public officials, and influential community members. Security experts argue that without sustained and coordinated countermeasures, these attacks are likely to continue.

As investigations continue, residents, political supporters, and human rights advocates are calling on the government to prioritize the rescue of Ambassador Gusau and to take concrete steps to address the insecurity affecting vulnerable communities in Zamfara State.
