The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has seized several assets linked to a lawyer associated with ex-Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor Godwin Emefiele as part of ongoing investigations into alleged financial crimes. The action forms part of broader efforts by the agency to clamp down on suspected corruption and money-laundering activities.

According to sources familiar with the case, the assets were seized under court orders obtained by the EFCC after tracing financial transactions and property holdings believed to be connected to proceeds of unlawful activities. The properties and other items, which were not immediately detailed by the anti-graft agency, are said to be located in various parts of the country.

The move follows a series of arrests, asset freezes, and investigations involving individuals linked to high-profile corruption cases. The EFCC has been pursuing multiple lines of inquiry into alleged abuse of office, diversion of funds, and breach of public trust by former public officials and their associates.

Officials said the seizure is part of standard procedures used to prevent suspects from dissipating assets while investigations and possible prosecutions are ongoing. Assets recovered or frozen in such cases may later be forfeited to the federal government if courts determine they were acquired unlawfully.

As of now, the identity of the lawyer whose assets were seized has not been publicly disclosed, but the development has drawn attention from legal and anti-corruption circles. Commentators say the EFCC’s actions signal continued pressure on individuals under scrutiny in high-profile financial crime probes.

The Commission has yet to issue a formal statement on the matter, and it remains unclear how the seizure will impact related investigations or pending legal actions involving other suspects.
