A major fire has destroyed a one‑storey commercial building at Computer Village in Ikeja, Lagos State. The fire occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, January 20, 2026, wiping out goods worth millions of naira and causing significant losses for traders.
According to the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), the fire was reported at about 1:55 a.m., prompting a rapid response from emergency teams. When responders arrived around 2:15 a.m., the upper floor of the building — mainly used for storing and selling computers, accessories, and electronics — was already engulfed in flames and thick smoke.
LASEMA officials said the high concentration of flammable materials in the building contributed to the fire’s fast spread. No fatalities were reported, although one firefighter sustained minor injuries and was treated at the scene by the Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS).
The fire was contained thanks to a coordinated effort by the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, LASAMBUS, and the Nigeria Police Force. Safety measures were implemented to protect neighbouring buildings and prevent the blaze from spreading.
Authorities have confirmed that the cause of the fire is under investigation, and traders are beginning to assess the full extent of financial losses caused by the incident.
