A heartbreaking video
circulating online has shown the two friends and coaches of British-Nigerian
boxing star Anthony Joshua who were killed in a tragic road accident in Ogun
State.
The crash occurred on
Monday, December 29, in Makun, Ogun State, when the Lexus SUV conveying Joshua,
with registration number KRD 850 HN, collided with a stationary truck along the
road.
The victims had reportedly
recently arrived in Nigeria to spend the Christmas holiday with Joshua before
their visit was cut tragically short. Social media videos captured their
arrival at Lagos airport, showing the men cheerful and excited, expressing hopes
of enjoying the festive season in the country.
One of the deceased,
identified as Sina Evovle, was Joshua’s Strength and Conditioning Coach, while
Laz, known online as “Healthy_Mindset,” served as the boxer’s personal trainer.
Both men were considered part of Joshua’s inner circle and had specifically
traveled to Nigeria for the holidays.
A press release signed by
Kayode Akinmade, Special Adviser to the Ogun State Governor on Information and
Strategy, confirmed that preliminary reports indicate two male foreign
nationals died at the scene.
FRSC PRO in Ogun State,
Afolabi Odunsi, attributed the crash to overspeeding and wrongful overtaking by
the driver, who overtook from the right-hand side and collided with a
stationary vehicle.
