The body of a missing Nigerian
doctor, Dr. Cletus Iwuagwu, has been discovered in a lake in the United States,
authorities have confirmed.
Dr. Iwuagwu, 71, was last seen on
November 24, 2025, in Holland, Ohio. According to the Lucas County Coroner’s
Office, his body was found on Thursday, December 25, 2025, in Orchard Lake near
the Stone Oak Country Club.
The coroner’s office said the
Springfield Fire Department recovered the body from the water, following a
search coordinated by the Lucas County Sheriff’s Office.
Family members had reported Dr.
Iwuagwu missing on November 25, a day after he was last seen at about 8 p.m. in
his office. Authorities revealed that his daughter had been receiving location
updates on her phone linked to her father’s movements, but officers were unable
to locate him at any of the places indicated.
At the time he went missing, Dr.
Iwuagwu was reportedly wearing a white shirt and blue trousers, according to
information provided by his family.
The coroner’s office stated that
the cause and manner of death are still under investigation, but there is
currently no suspicion of foul play. An autopsy is scheduled for Friday,
December 26, 2025.
In a statement, the University of
Toledo Medical Center confirmed that Dr. Iwuagwu was a professor in the College
of Medicine and Life Sciences, Department of Medicine, and also served as a
UToledo Health geriatric medicine physician.
“He is a well-respected
physician, and we share the community’s hope for his safe return as law
enforcement continues to investigate his missing-person case,” a university
spokesperson had said shortly after he was declared missing.
Further details are expected
following the autopsy and completion of the investigation.
