Sean “Diddy” Combs has been sentenced to just over four years in prison following his conviction for prostitution-related offences.
The 55-year-old music mogul
reportedly bowed his head in silence as Judge Arun Subramanian delivered the
50-month sentence in a Manhattan courtroom on Friday, while members of his
tearful family looked on.
In addition to the prison term,
Diddy was fined $500,000, with the judge condemning him for what he described
as the “savage” abuse of his ex-girlfriend, Cassie Ventura. Judge Subramanian
said he aimed to make an example of the rapper, emphasising that his actions
had caused “irreparable harm” to multiple victims.
“Deterrence requires a
significant sentence,” the judge stated, noting that Diddy continued hosting
what he called ‘freak offs’ even after his properties had been raided. He had faced public scrutiny over his abuse allegations.
“You exploited the power and
control you had over women you claimed to love,” the judge continued. “Why did
it go on so long? Because you had the means and influence to sustain it.”
The sentencing followed a tense
hearing, during which the court agreed to consider evidence from previous sex
trafficking and racketeering allegations—charges from which Diddy had been
cleared in July.
Prosecutors argued that Diddy
showed no remorse, pointing to his plans to attend a speaking engagement in
Miami on Monday, suggesting he did not expect to face jail time.
His attorney, Nicole
Westmoreland, tearfully pleaded for leniency, citing Diddy’s contributions to
fashion and culture, including his 2004 Menswear Designer of the Year award
from the Council of Fashion Designers of America.
“It wasn’t just an award—it
symbolised breaking barriers,” she said through tears.
Friday’s sentencing marks a
stunning fall from grace for Combs, once regarded as one of the most powerful
and influential figures in global entertainment
