Special Adviser on Policy
Communication to President Bola Tinubu, Daniel Bwala, is confident that the
president will make unprecedented electoral gains in the South-East during the
2027 presidential election.
Speaking on Channels Television’s
political programme on Wednesday night, Bwala projected that Tinubu could
secure as many as two million votes from the region — a staggering increase
compared to the 127,370 votes recorded there in 2023.
“This is going to be massive. Let
me take you zone by zone — in the South-East, I guarantee you, President Bola
Tinubu will get more than four times, if not six times, the number of votes he
got last time. We’re talking up to two million votes,” Bwala declared.
When asked about the possibility
of Labour Party’s Peter Obi still being on the ballot, Bwala dismissed
concerns, claiming Obi’s political influence had significantly declined. He
alleged that Obi might end up serving as Director-General in a coalition-backed
African Democratic Congress (ADC), rather than contesting as a presidential
candidate.
“As I speak, he’s unlikely to get
a ticket from any of the parties — ADC, PDP, or LP. In fact, there’s a chance
he won’t even clinch a vice-presidential slot. Whether he runs or not, Peter
Obi has lost over 50% of his 2023 votes because those votes weren’t built on
policy or agenda — they were built on rhetoric and division. Nigerians have now
seen through that,” Bwala said.
He also pointed to the recent
defections of southern governors to the APC and endorsements from
opposition-party governors as clear signs that Tinubu’s popularity in the
South-East will soar before 2027.
If Bwala’s predictions come true,
the president could see a historic turnaround in a region where his party has
traditionally struggled for support.
