In a heartwarming gesture of gratitude and giving back, the 1999 alumni of Community Grammar School Akowonjo celebrated their 25th reunion and anniversary by donating much-needed school furniture to their alma mater. The donation, which took place during a special ceremony held at the school premises, included desks, chairs, and tables to enhance the learning environment for current students.
The school principal, Mrs. Oluremi Adegboyega, expressed her deep appreciation for the alumni's generous contribution. "This is a wonderful gesture from our 1999 alumni," she said. "Their donation will go a long way in improving the quality of education our students receive. I encourage all our students to look up to these alumni as role models and to always remember the importance of giving back to their community."
Speaking at the event, the Alumni President, Corban Ifovba, emphasized the importance of staying connected to one’s roots. "Our time at Community Grammar School Akowonjo shaped us into who we are today, and it is only fitting that we give back to the institution that gave us so much," he said. The Committee Chairman of the reunion anniversary, Ibrahim Lawal Garuu, highlighted the efforts that went into organizing the event and the significance of the donation. "This reunion is not just about reconnecting with old friends; it's about giving back to our alma mater and making a difference," Garu stated. "The furniture donation is just one of the many ways we plan to support the school in the coming years."
Olubiyi Badejo, the association secretary, also addressed the students, urging them to make the most of their time at the school. "We were once where you are now," Badejo said. "We encourage you to study hard, stay focused, and always remember that the education you receive here will open doors for you in the future. One day, you too can give back and make a difference in the lives of others."
One of the current students, speaking on behalf of her peers, expressed heartfelt gratitude for the alumni's generosity. "We are so thankful for this donation," she said. "It shows that our school is not forgotten and that we have people who care about our education. We promise to take good care of the furniture and use it to improve our learning."
The event concluded with a tour of the school by the alumni, followed by a group photo session and a pledge to continue supporting their alma mater in various capacities. The donation by the 1999 alumni has undoubtedly set a remarkable example for both the students and the community, reminding everyone of the enduring power of education and the importance of giving back.
