 Three suspects have been arrested in connection with the fatal stabbing of Nigerian-British singer and songwriter Talay Riley, whose real name was Mark Yinka Orabiyi, in East London. Riley, 35, was found with stab wounds on June 5 and was pronounced dead despite efforts by paramedics. 


According to the Metropolitan Police, officers responding to reports of a stabbing discovered Riley in the garden of a property on Rayleigh Road in Silvertown, East London. Another man in his 20s was also injured and taken to hospital, where he is expected to recover. 


Police arrested:


  • A 27-year-old man on suspicion of murder, who has since been released on bail pending further inquiries.
  • A 24-year-old man and a 25-year-old woman, who were later released without further action after questioning.  



Detective Chief Inspector Joanna Yorke, who is leading the investigation, described the incident as tragic and appealed for witnesses, CCTV footage, and any information that could help establish what happened. The investigation remains ongoing. 


Riley was a Grammy-winning songwriter known for working with artists including Dua Lipa, Britney Spears, Usher, Craig David, Khalid, and H.E.R.. Tributes have poured in from across the music industry, with fellow artists and family members remembering him for his talent, generosity, and influence on modern music. 


At this stage, police have not announced a motive for the killing, and no one has been formally charged.
