The Oyo State Police Command has dismissed as false and misleading reports circulating on social media claiming that pupils and teachers abducted in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State have regained their freedom.

In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, the command said there has been no release of the abductees as of the time of the announcement and urged the public to disregard the viral messages.

According to the police:

“The claim is false, misleading and entirely unsubstantiated.”

The command stated that security agencies are still conducting coordinated rescue operations and are deploying all available resources to secure the safe return of the victims and bring the kidnappers to justice.

The Oyo State Government also debunked a viral video alleging that the abducted pupils and teachers had been released. Commissioner for Information, Dotun Oyelade, described the video as untrue and said efforts to secure the victims’ freedom were still ongoing.

The abduction occurred in May when armed men attacked schools in the Ahoro-Esiele and Yawota communities of Oriire LGA, kidnapping dozens of pupils and teachers. The incident has triggered nationwide protests, solidarity rallies by teachers’ unions, and an indefinite strike by public school teachers in Oyo State.

Police warned residents against spreading unverified information, saying fake reports could cause panic, distress affected families, and interfere with ongoing rescue efforts.

As of the latest official update, the abducted pupils and teachers have not been released, and rescue operations remain active.
